
Observers may be influenced by the subjects. Most serious errors involve the interpretation of the Korotkov sounds and recognising diastolic pressure. Most common sources of error in many reports are mostly due to the observer, including poor hearing, difficulty/failure in interpreting the Korotkov sounds and lack of concentration. All observers need adequate training in listening and recognising the correct sounds. The most important element in using auscultatory methods is the observer. the elderly, patients with arrhythmias, patients with a large arm, children, pregnant women.
